The Grupo de Capoeira Angola Menino de Arembepe was founded in 1987 by Mestre Lua de Bobó (Sr. Edvaldo Borges da Cruz) and formalised in 1995, in the city of Salvador, Bahia.

The name of the group refers Mestre Lua's childhood at Arembepe beach, in Camacari, on the north coast of Bahia . It was in this familiar environment that Mestre Lua de Bobo for the past 40 years has been teaching "capoeira Angola", winning many followers. He came from the Academia de Capoeira Angola Cinco Estrelas, where Mestre Bobo (Mr. Milton Santos) used to teach and until today he keeps the same training practice left by Mestre Bobó. (Sr. Milton Santos).

After having passed many difficulties, in January 2005, the group will inaugurate its own center on the Arembepe coast, in a piece of land inherited by Mestre Lua from his family. Located in the heart of Arembepe beach, the academy is a real present for this authentic "angoleiro"(a person who plays capoeira Angola), a magical place built by the mestre's own hand. The main objective of the group is to realise the practice of capoeira angola as a way of keeping balance and to educate people in Brasil and abroad.

The group is formed by the Godmather, Mrs. Maria (Metsre Lua's mother); contra-mestre Malhado (Erivaldo Borges da Cruz- the eldest of Mestre Lua's children); in Sao Paulo by Contra Mestre Serginho (Sergio Burihan); Tatiana Cristina in Salvador (Mestre Lua's daughter) and in Florianopolis, South of Brazil.

Serginho, from Caraguatatuba, São Paulo, stands out as a reference of capoeira practiced at the southeast of Brazil. For many years he has been a member of the Menino de Arembepe Group, and with his charisma he won the friendship of Meste Lua and all the others participants of the group. Serginho is a complete capoeira teacher, composer and player, who has just got in the University to study his Master degree in Anthropology.
